Connecting Hunter communities with information on transition opportunities
The Net Zero Economy Authority delivered a series of targeted communications initiatives in the Hunter region between November 2025 and January 2026. NZEA sought to provide information about local transition-related opportunities and regional economic developments, including mine land reuse, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy industries, solar manufacturing, and opportunities associated with the Port of Newcastle. Information was delivered through regional newspapers, First Nations media, radio and digital channels.
The initiatives used practical local examples to explain how transition-related developments may affect regional industries, employment opportunities and future investment activity.
Community engagement with Hunter-specific transition information increased during the campaign period. Visits to Hunter-focused content increased by 454 per cent, while overall visits to the NZEA website increased by 181 per cent. More than 111,000 people were reached through regional and First Nations media.
The substantial increase in visits to Hunter-specific content indicates strong community interest in information about local transition impacts and opportunities. Community members actively sought additional information about these topics through Hunter-specific content. Strong engagement was observed for content linking economic transition to practical regional opportunities, including future industries, investment activity and employment opportunities relevant to the Hunter region.
This effort demonstrates NZEA's ability to reach regional communities and connect people with practical information about opportunities associated with economic change.
