MGA Thermal

In April 2025, MGA Thermal commissioned its groundbreaking steam-integrated, latent heat thermal battery at its Tomago facility in New South Wales. This 5 MWh demonstration plant is a landmark achievement in industrial decarbonisation, proving renewable energy can be stored and dispatched as high-grade process steam - reliably, affordably, and at scale.

At the core of the system are MGA Thermal’s patented Miscibility Gap Alloy (MGA) blocks - solid-state phase change materials engineered to absorb renewable energy, store it as latent heat, and then release it on demand to provide firmed steam and heat for industry.

For industrial operators, this represents a commercially proven pathway to decarbonisation: reducing energy costs, shielding operations from fuel price volatility, and avoiding costly infrastructure overhauls - all while maintaining operational continuity and performance.

Key Facts:

• Location: Tomago, NSW

• Capacity: 5 MWh

• Environmental Impact: Avoiding industrial CO2 emissions by replacing fossil fuels with firmed renewable electricity as a heat source.
