CS Energy, the nominated generator of electricity at Gladstone Power Station, has notified the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) of the potential closure of the power station in March 2029.
The CEO of the Net Zero Economy Authority, David Shankey, has lodged a notifiable instrument on the Federal Register of Legislation. This identifies CS Energy’s notice to the AEMO regarding the closure of Gladstone Power Station as a ‘trigger notice’.
Gladstone Energy Industry Jobs Plan (EIJP) process

The notifiable instrument identifies CS Energy’s notice to the AEMO of the potential closure of Gladstone Power Station as a ‘trigger notice’ under the Net Zero Economy Authority Act 2024 (Cth) (NZEA Act). An active trigger notice enables the NZEA CEO to commence a COI process for Gladstone Power Station.
About the EIJP
The EIJP is a legislative, regulatory framework established under Part 5 of the NZEA Act to support a smooth transition for workers and businesses affected by the closure of coal-fired and gas-fired power stations.
It aims to help workers prepare for their next step and transition into new employment by placing certain obligations on employers to provide practical transition support, if requested, before closures occur.
